How to use it

  1. Set trim size, page count and paper. The spine width updates as you type.
  2. Download the PDF or PNG. Both are the exact full-cover size at 300 DPI.
  3. Design over the template. Keep text inside the dashed safe zones and leave the barcode box empty.
  4. Hide the guides and export. Upload the result to KDP as a single PDF cover.

Free template vs. the full cover

The template is free and unlimited. If you’d rather not lay the cover out yourself, the FormatPaperback check & fix builds the finished wrap from your front image, title, author and blurb: a print-ready PDF, a PNG and a layered PSD (background, front image, spine text, back text, hidden guides) for $9 per book, together with the fixed interior.

FAQ

Where can I get a free KDP cover template?

Right here: choose your trim size, page count and paper, then download a print-size PDF or PNG with the bleed, trim lines, spine folds, safe zones and barcode area drawn in. No account needed.

How do I use the KDP cover template in Canva or Photoshop?

Create a design at the full cover size shown (for example 12.79 × 9.25 in for 6 × 9 with 240 white pages), place the PNG on the bottom layer, design over it, then hide or delete the template layer before you export a PDF.

Is this the same template KDP gives you?

It uses the same measurements as KDP’s cover help page: 0.125 in bleed, spine = pages × paper thickness, text 0.125 in inside the trim and 0.0625 in from the spine folds. KDP’s previewer is the final check.

What should I not put in the template’s grey box?

That is where KDP prints the ISBN barcode (2 × 1.2 in, bottom right of the back cover). Keep it empty unless you add your own barcode.

Can you make the whole cover for me?

Yes. Upload your interior on the homepage, add your front image, title and blurb, and we build the full wrap — back, spine and front — as PDF, PNG and a layered PSD for $9 per book (fixed interior included).
